Character.AI Plus Subscriptions and Refunds in Bankruptcy
The company says paid subscriptions remain active and billing is unchanged for now. Cancelling and refund rules depend on where you subscribed: in the app through Apple or Google, or on the web. We found no separate refund process for the bankruptcy.
This is general information, not legal advice. It reports what the documents say on the date shown.

Does bankruptcy affect active c.ai+ subscriptions?
Not at the moment, according to the company. In its blog post dated October 12, 2026, it answered the question “Is my paid subscription still active?” with: “Yes, your subscriptions remain active, and billing is unchanged for now.”
The post adds: “If the service changes in a way that affects paid features, we intend to notify subscribers in advance.” The post does not name c.ai+ or any plan. It speaks of subscriptions in general.
We found no statement about what happens to unused subscription time if the platform is wound down. We also found no refund process set up for subscribers in the court case. The company’s court papers say it does not believe platform users are creditors to whom notice must be provided (Dkt. 8). The case website has a Claims section. Whether an unused subscription is a claim is a question for a lawyer.
Canceling Character.AI billing through app stores
The help center says how you manage a subscription “depends on where you signed up.” If you subscribed in the app, you manage or cancel it in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal. The help center says your plan stays active through the end of your current billing period.
| Where you subscribed | How to cancel | Official help |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone or iPad (App Store) | In Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, tap the subscription, then tap Cancel Subscription. | Apple Support: Cancel a subscription from Apple |
| Android (Google Play) | In Google Play, go to subscriptions, select the subscription, tap Cancel subscription and follow the instructions. Google says you can still use it for the time you have already paid. | Google Play Help: Cancel, pause, or change a subscription |
| Character.AI website (paid through Stripe) | The help center gives two routes. An older article says to go to Settings, Account, Manage, and use the Manage button to open a customer portal. A newer FAQ says to send a request through the support page and choose “Payments and purchases.” | Character.AI Help Center: How do I manage or cancel my c.ai+ subscription? |
How to request a refund for unused subscription time
The help center says: “Refunds depend on where you purchased.” It gives these rules.
- App Store and Google Play purchases follow Apple’s or Google’s refund policy and are requested directly through them.
- For web purchases made through Stripe, send a request through the support page, choose “Payments and purchases,” and include your purchase details.
- The company says: “We always honor the price shown to you at checkout.”
Refunds are not promised. Apple’s page says a refund request can be approved or not, and it sends you to reportaproblem.apple.com to ask. Google’s page says Google “may give refunds for some purchases” and that contacting the app developer is often the quickest way to resolve an issue.
