How to Export Character.AI Voice and Group Chats

Character.AI’s help center says call conversations are stored as text chat, so you can copy them like any chat. We found no official way to download call audio, or to export one group chat on its own. The whole-account export may or may not include them, and the company has not said.

Exporting group chats and multi-character rooms

The help center article on downloading your data does not mention group chats. It also does not say what the export file contains, so we cannot say whether group chats are in it. Check your file when it arrives. See how to open and read the export file.

We found no help center article about exporting a single group chat. To save one now, open it, select the conversation, copy it into a document and note who is in the group. Or take screenshots from the top of the chat down, overlapping each one with the last by one message.

Saving Character.AI voice notes and audio calls

The Character Calls and Voice FAQ answers this question: “Is there a transcript of the Call available so I can view it like a text thread?” Its answer is: “Yes! Call conversations are also stored as text chat, so users can always reference it later.” That page shows it was last updated about two years ago.

So the words of a call should be in the chat, and you can save them like any other chat text. We found no official way to download the audio of a call. The privacy policy says the company collects “voice data, including recordings of your voice, if you chose to use certain voice features,” but it does not say whether the export includes recordings.

If call audio matters to you, ask the company whether it can be included in your data. Use the request form at support.character.ai or write to privacy@character.ai.

Archive options for multi-user and audio content

Copy the text of calls and group chats into a document, one file per chat, with the character’s name and the date in the file name.
Take screenshots of parts that do not copy well.
Keep your export file in two places, and look inside it for the chats you care about.
A group chat can hold messages from other people. Keep your copy private, and ask before you share it.
